The images below show the stages during the development of a painting. A painting comes about through a mix of responses to remembered landscapes, with the memories triggered by the paint on the canvas. There are no sketches and no planning takes place. All there is at the beginning is a feeling of a place or a memory of a moment. As the painting progresses this may change, depending on what is revealed when the paint is loosely applied on the canvas. When I begin painting I have no idea what the finished painting will look like.

These paintings are done with acrylic paint, which dries very quickly. The paint is applied loosely quickly, and it covers the layer below to a lesser or greater extent.
